“Here, the Second National Assembly of the Greeks convened on March 30, 18 April 1823”

Like today 198 years ago, on March 30, 1823, the work of the Second National Assembly of the Greeks officially began.

The “Holy Space” of the Second National Assembly of the Greeks is undoubtedly one of the most important historical monuments not only of Kynouria but also of our homeland.

These and other things the common mind tells us we must always distinguish and promote in local, regional and national space, and on the website of our municipality and in the anniversary events for the celebration of the 200 years of the Greek Revolution.

The whole world and the “Greece2021” committee have known “The historic Astros of Kynouria ” since the Second National Assembly of the Greeks. We will soon celebrate the anniversary of the Second National Assembly in connection with the great celebration for the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821.

Nafplio, which was originally chosen to hold the Assembly, was rejected as it was considered a “partial place”, ie partisan, under the absolute influence of Kolokotronis. Thus, Astros or Agiannitika Kalivia, as it was then called, was finally chosen for the National Assembly as a “place of the Nation”, ie a neutral place, which did not belong to party factions. ”

“The Assembly began its work on March 29 and the next day the thieves and captains came. Petrobeis Mavromichalis took over the presidency.

The meetings took place in the countryside, “in an orchard”, according to Kolokotronis, “inside the Museum of Karytsiotis”, says the proclamation of the National Assembly, “under the shadow of a coconut” or “in the middle of a multi-tree and fertile estate”, according to tradition.”

The Archaeological Museum of Astros and the “Sacred Space” of the Second National Assembly of the Greeks are modest and imposing, they are “museums” in themselves.

The indigenous Pelasgians had a golden rule that for millennia until today the inhabitants of Thyrea faithfully applied, mutual respect, consensus, conciliation and the Greek measure. The “squid” Astrinos, faithful to the tradition of millennia of people of the Greek measure and national reconciliation, were called at that time by the nation to reconcile the warring camps for a national dialogue and achieved it with results, under the influence and leadership of Agianitis responsible for military security in time of war of the National Assembly, Panos Zafeiropoulos or Akouros. Astros was chosen for the National Assembly, because in Astros there were many squids and it was undoubtedly a place of common acceptance and would better help the nation.

The archeological service in 1899 built the inscription on the site and the locals after the end of the Second “National Assembly” named the site “Sacred Space”, out of obvious respect, for the great contribution it offered to the Greek Nation. Here, for exaggeration, the “sanctuary” does not have a religious meaning but a National meaning, the place was recognized by the inhabitants as very important, as a “Holy Place”.

The decisions of the National Assembly were very important for the establishment and organization of the Greek State.

1) The Nation acquired a final Constitution, which by decision of the assembly was “the supreme law” and served the laws of the parliament… By decision of the assembly, the catalytic intervention of Kolokotronis, the rage of the people and the army, prevents the sale of of national lands, estates, left behind by the Turkish lords, sought and desired by the Kotzabasids of the assembly; The assembly voted the famous “Declaration of the NW of the Greek Assembly”, to the World, signed by 128 Plenipotentiaries, including Kolokotronis and the assembly responded with the proclamation, to the world and the elders of the time. “We are determined to become independent, as an autonomous and independent nation.” a little topical today…

2) The revised Constitution, extremely progressive and pioneering for its time, contained liberal and democratic provisions, which guaranteed the individual rights of the citizen. Public education was institutionalized, issues of religious freedom were resolved, the principle of freedom of the press was established, etc. The Penal Code was drafted, based on Byzantine Law, for the protection of the citizen from the impunity of the authorities

3) In the field of human rights, the abolition of any form of slavery was foreseen: “no one is sold or bought in the Greek territory and the bought person, if he steps on the Greek land, becomes free and the buyer loses his money”.

Holidays that are full of complexity are neither fun nor comfortable. The local community demands more. It requires the promotion of the space in every way and on the website of our municipality, where we can, and the final and irreversible opening of the “Holy Space” without guards and supervisors.

The Ministry of Culture for twelve years unjustifiably and unjustifiably “locked” the space and knows well how to “protect” and “lock”, but does not know how to “promote” our cultural heritage.

The common mind will finally prevail and will open definitively and irrevocably The “Holy Space” of the Second National Assembly of the Greeks, not only for celebrations.

We have proposed to our municipality, to all those responsible, to the committee “Greece 2021” and to the common mind, the five topics of the Earth Thyreatis, which undoubtedly played a catalytic importance for the organization and success of the liberation struggle.

The most important topics we have in the Thyreatis  Earth and we must always distinguish and promote in the anniversary events of 1821.
